Synopsis

There is a global outcry regarding male youth diminished self-esteem and connectedness; resulting from predisposition to risk factors and risky behaviour. Diminished self-esteem and connectedness inadvertently lead to lowered psychosocial well-being and psychosocial capital. Male youth with lowered psychosocial well-being and psychosocial capital can neither be happy nor fulfil their full potential in the spheres of education and job specific training. Besides, many live shorter lives and are unable to play their appropriate social roles effectively. One of the sources of low self-esteem and lack of connectedness is the unavailability of formal mentorship by adult males. This book explores the effectiveness of adult males in formal mentorship participation in enhancing male youth self-esteem and connectedness. It goes on to evaluate the interpose of adult male age and cultural background on this participation. It further assesses whether the age and cultural background of mentees intervenes in their self-esteem and connectedness. In addition, the author introduces the SAVE mentorship model which provides a step by step guideline to effective formal mentorship.
