A Synopsis of African Divine Church in Kenya with a Special Reference to Vihiga County
Synopsis
Independent church movement is a phenomenon that engulfed the African continent since the colonial period. These movements are referred to as African Independent Churches. The factors that led to their emergence include political, economic, social cultural, Biblical translation and protestant denominationalism among others. These churches emerged as a protest to colonialism. The African Divine church hereafter referred to as ADC is one of these new religious movements whose headquarters is in Hamisi Sub-county of Vihiga County. The authors contribute to knowledge of new religious movements by discussing the historical background of ADC, examining the beliefs and practices of ADC in relation to marriage and death, assessing the role of women in leadership in ADC and theological aspects of the ADC with specific reference to worship, faith healing and prophecy. The book will greatly benefit scholars of African Religion.
