Malaria and HIV-AIDS: The Impact of their Co-Infection – A Focus on Sub-Saharan Africa
Synopsis
This book is an eye opener in the field of medical sciences, particularly on interaction between malaria co-infection with HIV/AIDS, both diseases being important in public health set ups in sub-Saharan African countries, including Kenya. The book has compared research findings carried out in other parts of the world and particularly in the sub- Saharan Africa as well as those that were conducted locally in this nation with regard to interaction of malaria and HIV/AIDS, both at the biological and therapeutic levels. This book endeavoured to determine the effect of HIV infection on falciparum malaria infection (the principal malaria species) with respect to parasitaemia and response to anti-malarial therapy in patients suffering from co-infection in sub-Saharan Africa where both diseases are endemic. The book is very resourceful to trainee students in medical and applied biological sciences as well as researchers and medical professionals.
